This winter season of 2009-2010 has seen well above normal snowfall in the area... specifically at Sioux Falls... Sioux City... and Huron. Sioux City has already had its 7th snowiest season... and Sioux Falls and Huron could easily reach into the top 10 snowiest seasons before its all over by may. In addition... Sioux City tied its record snow depth of 28 inches on January 7-10th of this year. Please refer to previous statements for details of the previous records.
Due to the persistent winter cold... the snow cover endured from December to the present time... but has recently melted down quite a bit. For consecutive days of 5 inches and/or 10 inches snow depth... Sioux Falls... Sioux City... and Huron were all either 2nd or 3rd place in the all time records for persistent snow cover.
